Pancake Day

This is a special day in Britain. It is celebrated on the Tuesday before the first day of Lent, which starts 40 days before Easter Sunday.

Families make and eat pancakes. They’re made of eggs, flour and milk. It’s the only day of the year when almost everyone eats a pancake.

If you want to make them, follow these instructions. They’re delicious.

In some parts of Britain people have a race, tossing a pancake in a frying pan without dropping it. It’s very difficult but it’s fun.

At school we have an original pancake race. We have a good time. We also sing a song.
